Feasibility Study

Assess a business idea or expansion with market evidence, operating requirements, cost assumptions and decision criteria before committing resources.

Test an idea before making a larger commitment

A promising idea still needs a workable customer, operating and financial case. This proposed feasibility service is for owners evaluating a new business, product, location or operating expansion. It helps organise the evidence behind a decision to proceed, run a smaller test, revise the idea or stop. A study is useful when enthusiasm is high but the unknowns have not been written down clearly.

The assessment begins with the decision itself. What would need to be true for the idea to make sense? What would make it unacceptable? Setting those criteria early reduces the risk of adjusting the conclusion simply to fit the desired answer.

What the proposed scope includes

Proposed deliverables

An assessment report can bring together the evidence, a financial scenario model and a decision matrix. It can also set out a staged testing plan where uncertainty is too high for a firm conclusion. Estimates should be labelled and accompanied by their source or reasoning. An unresolved permit, lease or supplier question should appear as a dependency requiring specialist confirmation.

How an assessment can proceed

Define the concept and evaluation criteria. Collect the owner’s information and research the most important unknowns. Build an operating view and compare plausible financial scenarios. Examine which assumptions change the decision. Review findings with the owner, record unresolved questions and agree what evidence is needed before the next commitment. A narrow pilot may be more useful than expanding the study indefinitely.

What to bring

Prepare a description of the idea, intended customers, location assumptions, supplier quotes, likely selling prices, capacity estimates and the resources you are considering committing. Evidence of customer interest is helpful, but distinguish actual orders from survey responses or informal encouragement. Existing businesses can provide relevant sales patterns and operating records through an agreed secure channel.

What the work may help you decide

The study may reveal whether demand assumptions are credible, whether operating requirements are manageable and where more research would reduce uncertainty. It cannot predict demand with certainty or guarantee that an idea will succeed. It is not a certified valuation, due-diligence assurance engagement or legal, tax, investment or financial-product advice.

Feasibility questions

What if my idea is still early?

An early assessment can identify the questions worth testing first. The scope can remain focused rather than assuming a full launch plan is required.

Can the conclusion be to pause?

Yes. A useful assessment can support proceeding, revising, testing or stopping. It should not be designed to justify a decision already made.

Does research prove that customers will buy?

No. Research provides evidence with limitations. Real purchase behaviour and a carefully designed pilot can add information that general market data cannot supply.

Start with the decision you need to make

Describe your business, the question you want to resolve and the information currently available. Scope, fees and timing are subject to confirmation before any engagement.
